Bought in April 1998 from Pat & Jim Rutherford (Clonageera), no one envisaged that this puppy would grow up to have such an incredible impact not only on Gwendariff, but also on the Breed. Annie was the foundation bitch for Gwendariff Irish Setters, excelling in the show ring and as a mother. As Diane says, she owes everything to Annie, without whom none of her incredible success would have been possible.  With Annie, aged only two years, Diane won her first CC in the breed, later becoming her first Show Champion both in the UK & Ireland. She won their first Championship Best In Show Award, at both Breed Club & General Championship Shows. As a mother she produced Gwendariff’s first homebred Show Champion and was Top Brood Bitch on two separate occasions.

Annie turned out to be the 5th Show Champion from the successful mating between Sh Ch Starchelle Chicago Bear (Crufts Supreme Champion 1995) & Sh Ch Clonageera Stella (also a winner of the Top brood Bitch competition). Her Show Champion litter mates were: Sh Ch Clonageera Fennella, Sh Ch Clonageera Inspiration, Sh Ch Clonageera Flambouyant & Sh Ch Clonageera Independance.

Diane booked Annie, eighteen months before she got her. After seeing her mother Sh Ch Clonageera Stella at Bournemouth Championship Show a few years earlier, Diane was smitten with this beautiful bitch and knew that she had to have something from her. It seemed that from an early age, Annie was destined for stardom. She had a successful puppy and junior career and at only two years of age she won her first CC at Midlands Irish Setter Society Championship Show under Judge Roy Rout. Not content with that she went on to win Best In Show as well.

Just six days later Diane mated Annie to Sh Ch Danaway Fortune Teller J.W. bred and owned by Brian & Mary Gurney. James, as he was known, was the tenth Show Champion from the world famous Danaway kennel. Diane hoped that by merging these two, she would produce her own stars. Annie didn’t disappoint, producing 10 puppies which began a new era for Gwendariff.

At the end of 2001 and the beginning of 2002 Annie was once more back in the ring and was campaigned to win her Irish Show Champion title, culminating with Best In Show at Bray All Breed Championship Show. Having gained this, Diane then concentrated on showing in the UK in an effort to try to win her GB title. Her second CC came in October 2002, followed by that all important third CC at Belfast & District Irish Setter Club Championship Show in June 2003. Not only did Annie gain her GB Show Champion title that day, but also won Best In Show as well.

Annie was a large part of life at Gwendariff and is so very sorely missed. I feel happy knowing that her spirit is here, I can feel her with me every day in everything that I do. All my dogs are special, but some are more so and she was the one for me. Everything was all because of her, without her I would have nothing. You have done me proud……………… dearest darling Annie, you’ve made it all possible. You really were ‘The Star of the Show’.
